Abstract

1,094,843. Air cushion vehicles. SOCIETE BERTIN & CIE. April 28, 1965 [May 12, 1964], No. 17835/65. Headings B7G and B7K. A load-carrying platform 1 on which loads are dropped by parachute has at least one toroidal bag 2 fixed to its underside, means for inflating the bag and means for discharging fluid to the space it surrounds, so that an air cushion is formed when the bag nears the ground. The bag is inflated by ejectors 4a supplied before impact by a further ejector supplied with gas from a compressed gas bottle, and after landing by a compressor on a tractor used to tow the platform. The air cushion may be supplied by an ejector, or by fluid from the bag, through a connection 3a containing a diaphragm which bursts or a valve which opens when the bag pressure reaches a predetermined value. The compressed gas bottle is opened automatically when the platform nears the ground by a line (Fig. 4, not shown) carrying a weight which strikes the ground to release the tension in the line.
