Abstract
A drinking device for use with a cage for rodents or the like comprises a trough 2 disposed in a corner of the cage 1 and having a drainage outlet 3, and a supply pipe 5 connected to valves 6 actuated by the rodent to dispence water or other liquid as required. The pipe 5 is supplied from a tank 7 the inlet of which is controlled by ballcock 9, the tank inlet being connected to a main supply tank 27 through a filter 29. The valve 6 may comprise a valve head carried by a spindle extending through a housing and projecting therefrom so as to be lifted by the animal. Alternatively the valve may include a ball which is dislodged by the animal to move a piston controlling the supply of liquid. The tank 7, pipe 5 and cage 1 may be supported on a framework 31. A series of cages 1 may be supplied from one tank 7, the drainage outlets 3 discharging into a common drainage channel. The cages may be disposed in tiers and a supply tank provided for each tier.
