Abstract

Apparatus for playing a modified game of chess comprises a board marked with a substantially rectangular or square array of circular or hexagonal playing spaces which are distinguishable by markings into three separate groups, no two adjacent spaces belonging to the same group. Each player has either eighteen pieces comprising a king, a queen, two knights, two bishops, two rooks, nine pawns and a further piece called a "viking" in the Specification, or fourteen pieces obtained by eliminating two pawns and two different pieces out of the knights, bishops, rooks and viking. The moves of the pieces are described in the Specification.
