Abstract

A thermosealable packing film is obtained by coating a polyolefin support film with a layer of an amine or imine, and a second layer of a mixture of an epoxy resin with a vinyl or vinylidene polymer or copolymer. The first layer may consist of an alkyleneimine polymer such as a polyethyleneimine, a polypropyleneimine, or ethylene diamine, diethylene triamine or tetraethylene pentamine. The vinyl or vinylidene polymer is a polymer of vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, or vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate, vinyl chloride-vinylidene chloride, vinylidene chloride-acrylonitrile copolymers. The epoxy resin may be the condensation product of epichlorohydrin with a phenol. The support films may be obtained from polypropylene, prepared with stereospecific catalysts, or ethylene polymers, and to which stabilizers, lubricants, plasticizers, dyes, pigments, antistatic agents, and/or fillers can be added before extrusion. The support may be subjected to electrical treatment or stretched in one or two directions prior to coating. The stretching may be carried out after one or both coatings. The coating can be on one or both faces of the film, applied from a solution or dispersion in water or organic solvent by say spreading or immersion.
