Abstract
109,277. Murphy, L., and Lyon & Wrench, A. July 29, 1916. Pole-pieces, cores, yokes, and carcase structures. The polar portions 2 of a laminated field magnet are hollow and are provided with short extensions connected by yoke portions 5; slots 6 connect the passages 3 to the pole faces. The field-magnet coils 1 span practically the whole pole pitch. The field magnet may be built up of a number of units, each having the outline shown' by the shaded portions in Fig. 1. Four of such units, or bundles of units, form a complete layer, the succeeding layer being formed by four similar units, or bundles, inverted or reversed so that imbricated joints are formed at the places 4. Single laminµ having the general contour shown in Fig. 2 may be employed. More than one passage 3 may be provided in each pole. Integral or detachable poleshoes may be provided.
