Abstract
1,092,564. Automatic exchange systems. TELEFON L. M. ERICSSON A.B. Jan. 19, 1966 [Jan. 19, 1965], No. 2580/66. Heading H4K. A message, such as asking a subscriber who was busy when called to call a certain number, or such as giving a subscriber advice as to duration and charge for a call just completed, is compiled from a stock of words on a record medium in a playback machine, each word being recorded along with a code tag and a store being provided to record a sequence of codes corresponding to a required message, the sequence of codes being read out one by one for comparison with code tags on the record medium to obtain playback of the corresponding words one by one. As shown in Fig. 1 a subscriber, such as B, found busy can be camped on by a relay set SRB over selector VAD. When the subscriber clears from the call with which he has been busy he is rung from SRB and is connected on reply to a playback machine BSP. A message is compiled for the subscriber found busy by dialling a sequence of code numbers which are stored in binary form in successive columns of a magnetic core store MEM. When the message is to be delivered the columns are read out one by one to a register ULF where they are compared with the whole sequence of similar codes on a track S2 of the reproducing machine which holds words corresponding to the codes on a track S1. As coincidence between codes is detected in JLK the reproducing machine is instructed to deliver the corresponding word to the relay set SRB. The facility to leave such a message is obtained by dialling a service digit which connects the store MM and uses the identity of the wanted subscriber in register REG to effect the camping connection over VAD. Where the exchange uses line state memory and data processing for path routing (Fig. 2, not shown) the busy line identity can be marked to initiate a message connection as soon as the line becomes free. For messages advising duration and charge for a call a store such as MM has data fed to it direct from the metering equipment. This facility is also obtained by dialling a service digit.
