Abstract
Novel O,O - dialkyl - S - (2 - halo - 1 - phthalimidoethyl)-phosphorodithioates, wherein the alkyl groups contain 1 or 2 carbon atoms and the halo group is either bromo or chloro, are prepared by reacting N - (1,2 - dihaloethyl)-phthalimide with a salt of a dialkyl dithiophosphate. The compounds have insecticidal properties and are also useful in the preparation of related insecticides where the dialogen, when Br, is replaced by e.g, -SCN, -OC(CH3)=O, -SC(CH3)=S, -SCH2(O)OR, -OR and -NR2 where R is C1- 3 hydrocarbon.ALSO:Insecticidal compositions effective against Southern Army worm and Plum Curculio contain an O, O-dialkyl-S-(2-halo-1-phthalimidoethyl)-phosphorodithioate, wherein the alkyl contains 1 or 2 carbon atoms and the halo is bromo or chloro, together with an inert, dispersible diluent. The compositions may be prepared as concentrates of the toxic ingredient in a suitable dispersing agent, and may be diluted prior to use, preferably with water. Suitable dispersing agents include solids, such as finely divided clay, or liquid emulsifying agents. Organic solvents may also be present.
