Abstract
Stereoregular vinyl chloride polymers are prepared by a process which comprises carrying out the reaction at - 60 DEG to 0 DEG C. using a stereo-specific catalyst and in the presence of a plasticizer in an amount of 1 to 50% by weight of the monomer, whilst subjecting the monomer to shearing or grinding greater than that caused by conventional stirring. The vinyl chloride may be copolymerized with vinyl acetate, propionate or stearate, or with methyl, ethyl or isoctyl acrylate. The process may be effected using a ball or rod mill, a ribbon mixer or a planetary stirrer. In the examples, a mixture of vinyl chloride, methanol, ascorbic acid, H2O2, Fe2(SO4), and the following plasticizers was formed and placed in a rotating cylinder containing steel balls, the plasticizers being (1) ditridecyl phthalate; (2) butanediol-adipic acid polyester; (3) propanediol-sebacic acid polyester; (4) epoxy-stearic acid ester; and (5) paraffin-sulphonic acid phenyl ester.
