Abstract

Alkylcyclohexenes (including 9,10-octalin) are obtained by reacting, in the liquid phase, an alkylbenzene (including tetralin) with potassium and/or rubidium and with a primary amine. Examples describe the production of 1-methyl-cyclohexene from toluene, 1-isopropylcyclohexene from cumene, 1-t-butylcyclohexene from t-butylbenzene, 1,2-dimethylcyclohexene from o - xylene, 1,3,5 - trimethylcyclohexene from mesitylene, and 9,10-octalin from tetralin.
