Abstract

1,090,891. Control systems for stage lighting. STRAND ELECTRIC & ENGINEERING CO. Ltd., and F. P. BENTHAM. July 10, 1964 [April 12, 1963], No. 5723/63. Heading H2H. The dimmer control potentiometers of a stage lighting system may be selectively connected, individually or in groups, to a master potentiometer and then transferred to a second master potentiometer leaving the first available for connection to further dimmer potentiometers. Fig. 1 shows the basic circuit arrangement which uses bi-stable relays 8, 8<SP>1</SP> and is so arranged that, by suitably operating switches 6, 6<SP>1</SP>, 9, either or both of the dimmer potentiometers 1, 3 can be connected to the master potentiometer 5 and then transferred to the second master potentiometer 7. The selector switches 6, 6<SP>1</SP> may be operated manually or electrically from a memory store. After selection, the individual dimmer potentiometers may be adjusted as desired, the master potentiometer is moved from the " full-off " to the " full-on " position (at the required rate) and the potentiometers are then transferred to the second master potentiometer. Some or all of the transferred potentiometers may be reconnected to the master for fading-in or out. Alternatively this may be done by using the second master. Provision is made for the adjustment of one or a number of selected dimmer potentiometers without disturbing the existing selection, for transferring a single "selected" potentiometer from a number of selected potentiometers, or for " blacking out " those light channels under the control of the first or second master potentiometer. Various selections may be connected to a memory store for subsequent reproduction. The panel arrangement, circuit diagram and operation of a control system embodying the above features is described, Figs. 2, 3 and 4 (not shown).
