Abstract

An elastomeric silylmethylene polymer is made by treating 1,1,3,3-tetra-methyl-1,3-di-silicocyclobutane with an active drying agent, e.g. Na, K, LiH or CaH2, in a vacuum and effecting polymerization at 150 DEG to 250 DEG C. under reduced pressure and, if desired, in an inert atmosphere. Examples are given of the above process.
