Abstract

1,090,433. Pulse delaying. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 3, 1965 [Feb. 7, 1964], No. 5246/64. Heading H3T. A pulse delay circuit in which each output pulse occurs at a predetermined time before the next input pulse, independent of the pulse repetition rate, comprises a sawtooth generator giving a constant slope irrespective of the pulse repetition rate and means for detecting the peak level of the sawtooth voltage and generating an output pulse when the sawtooth voltage reaches a level which is a predetermined amount below the peak level. The sawtooth wave is generated across C3 which charges through a constant-current arrangement of transistor T1, Zener diode D1 and associated resistors. An input pulse at 1 allows transistor T2 to conduct and terminates the sawtooth. R4 and C2 provide a constant D.C. voltage which is added to the sawtooth to provide the base voltage of T3. Transistors T3 and T5 with capacitors C4 and C5 form a peak detector for the sawtooth, a desired fraction of the emitter voltage of T3 being tapped off at the moving contact of S2, transistor T4 and Zener diode D2 maintaining the current constant. The voltage at the righthand side of diode D3 is therefore less than the sawtooth peak by a predetermined amount, depending on the setting of S1 and S2, and when the sawtooth wave at the left-hand side of D3 exceeds this value the diode will conduct and provide an output pulse at 5. Alternatively (not shown) the sawtooth voltage can be passed through a large coupling capacitor and the peak value D.C. restored or clamped to a fixed potential. The invention can be used for compensating for cable delay of T.V. signals of different standards where the line repetition rate is different. The settings of switches S1 and S2 then correspond to different cable lengths.
