Abstract
A washing and bleaching composition suitable for use in the cleaning of cotton fabrics and polyester slabs comprises at least one solid surface active substance, at least one solid alkali and/or alkaline earth metal chlorite and at least one solid oxidizing agent which in aqueous solution or suspension develops chlorine di-oxide from the alkali or alkaline earth metal chlorite. The chlorite may be sodium or calcium chlorite and the oxidizing agent may be sodium, potassium or ammonium persulphate, calcium or lithium hypochlorite or mono-di- or trichloro-isocyanuric acid or a salt thereof. Suitable surface active agents are salts of higher fatty acids, sulphurized oils, alkyl sulphonates, alkyl aryl sulphonates, alkyl sulphates, condensation products of fatty acids and polyethenoxy compounds. The composition may also contain alkalis, e.g. hydroxides, carbonates and bicarbonates, builders, e.g. chlorides, sulphates, silicates, poly, pyro and metaphosphates and cellulose derivatives, optical brightening agents, e.g. dibenzoyl diamino stilbenedisulphonic acid, corrosion preventatives, e.g. nitrates, orthophosphates and pyridine derivatives, masking aromatics and polishing agents, e.g. quartz sand, quartz powder and diatomaceous earth.ALSO:A washing and bleaching composition suitable for use in the cleaning of cotton fabrics, comprises at least one solid surface p active substance, at least one solid alkali and/or alkaline earth metal chlorite and at least one solid oxidising agent which in aqueous solution or suspension develops chlorine dioxide from the alkali or alkaline earth metal chlorite. The chlorite may be sodium or calcium chlorite and the oxidising agent may be sodium, potassium or ammonium persulphate, calcium or lithium hypochlorite or mono-, di- or trichloroisocyanuric acid or a salt thereof. Suitable surface active agents are salts of higher fatty acids, sulphurized oils, alkyl sulphonates, alkyl aryl sulphonates, alkyl sulphates, condensation products of fatty acids and polyethenoxy compounds. The composition may also contain alkalis, e.g. hydroxides, carbonates and bicarbonates, builders, e.g. chlorides, sulphates, silicates, poly, pyro and metaphosphates and cellulose derivatives, optical brightening agents, e.g. dibenzoyl diamino stilbenedisulphonic acid, corrosion preventatives, e.g. nitrates, orthophosphates and pyridine derivatives and masking aromatics.
