Abstract

1,088,780. Mechanical switches; distribution arrangements; terminals; fusible cut-outs. SQUARE D CO. Sept. 2, 1965 [Sept. 23, 1964], No. 37445/65. Headings H2B, H2E and H2G. A fuse-switch (20), (Figs. 1, 2, not shown) includes one or more removable switch handles 43, each carrying a combination fuse clip and movable contact (44), (Fig. 9, not shown), the fuse clip portion (44c) receiving one end of a cartridge fuse (46), (Figs. 7, 8, not shown), such that upon insertion of the handle 43 in the switch casing the fuse 46 moves axially, and the handle assembly 42 being rotatable in the casing to engage the movable contact portions (44a), 44b, with their respective stationary contact portions (34d), 48a, in the casing and complete circuits between a line terminal and stationary contact assembly (28), (Fig. 5, not shown) and load wires 53 via indicator lamp 36 and resistors 38, or via fuses 46 and load terminal stops 29 and 30, (Fig. 14, not shown). A handle 43 can only be inserted in the OFF position in view of a projection 43a thereon (Figs. 2, 4, not shown). A spring 34 indexes handle 43 in both its ON and OFF positions. A handle and cartridge fuse assembly cannot be inserted in the wrongly rated fuse-switch and tuned to the ON position, in view of shelves (171a, 171b, 171c) and (172a, 172b, 172c) preventing the projection 43a from passing surface 65 and moving under surface 67 (Figs. 11-13, not shown). The fuse-switches 20 are interchangeable with automatic circuitbreakers (192), of the type in Specification 966,196, in an electrical panelboard (178), (Figs. 15, 16, not shown), having a cover (181). The load terminal stops have outer end portions 29a, 30a, associated with resilient connector springs 32, and each load wire 33 is connected by pushing therebetween. Apertures 54 receive a screwdriver for depressing spring 32 to release a wire 53. The fuse-switches 20 are mounted on mounting rails (185), (Figs. 15, 16, not shown), and branch bus-bars (188), each branch bus-bar (188) being connected to one or the other of the main bus-bars (187). A neutral bar (189) is provided, and each bar (187), (189), has a connector (190) for the power lines or neutral wire respectively.
