Abstract
A method of preparing a blue-emitting electroluminescent phosphor comprises mixing zine sulphide with from 0.05 to 0.74% of copper iodide and from 0.05 to 10% of zine oxide, and firing in a stagnant air atmosphere at 850-950 DEG C. for 1-2 hours. The zinc oxide reduces particle growth average sizes of 5 to 15 microns being attainable and eliminates the need to crush and re-fire the phosphor. A specific method of preparation described utilizes 0.5% ZnO and 0.5% CuI by weight of ZnS.
