Abstract

1,087,236. Shearing. MOELLER & NEUMANN G.m.b.H. Oct. 28, 1965 [Nov. 17, 1964], No. 45666/65. Addition to 922,563. Heading B3W. A shearing apparatus for trimming the opposite edges of sheet metal 16 comprises two oppositely disposed individual shears and a cross-cut shear, each of the oppositely disposed shears including a shaft 3 disposed parallel to the path of movement of the sheet, a movable cutter support 2 carried by said shaft and including at least one radial arm, a movable cutter 1a mounted on said arm and co-operating with a stationary cutter 15 and reciprocating drive means for oscillating said cutter support, bearing blocks 5 for said cutter support shaft, guideways 14 along which the bearings 5 can slide, power means including toggle linkages connected to said bearing blocks and to a pivot shaft 19 for moving said bearing blocks, said shaft, support and movable cutter away from said fixed cutter during the return stroke of the movable cutter and means for moving said pivot shafts, toggle linkages, bearing blocks, shaft, support and movable cutter independently of said power means for adjusting the cutter gap with said toggle linkages in a straight position. Means for producing relieving movement of cutter.-Each bearing block 5 which supports the shaft 3 has a pair of lugs (5a), Fig. 4 (not shown) in which are journalled a shaft (32). Between the lugs is an eccentric portion (32a) of the shaft (32) and mounted on this eccentric portion is one end of a link (17). The other end of the link (17) is mounted on a linkage shaft 19 which is journalled in a bifurcated adjusting piece 33. The link 17 and the eccentric (32a) constitute a toggle mechanism. At one end of the shaft (32) is secured a crankarm 45 which is pivotally connected by a rod 46 to a forked member 49. This member is pivotally mounted at 48 to the shear frame and carries two roller followers 50 and 51 which are actuated by cams 47 on the mainshaft. As the cutter makes its return stroke the member 49 is rotated clockwise and through the rod 46 rotates the eccentric (32a) of the shaft (32) and withdraws the movable cutter 1a from the cut edge of the sheet 16. There is similar mechanism at each side of the shear. Means for adjusting cutter clearance.-The adjusting piece 33 which can slide in the direction of the guides 14a but which cannot rotate is connected to a threaded spindle 34. The spindle 34 passes through a nut 35 which cannot slide axially but which is connected by gearing 35a, 36, 38 and 39 to a drive motor 41. Rotation of the nut adjusts the cutting clearance between the movable cutter 1a and the fixed cutter 15. The gearing 35a, 36, 38 and 39 at one side of the shear is connected directly to a motor (41), Fig. 3 (not shown), and the gearing at the other side of the shear is driven through a shaft (42) which includes a magnetic power coupling (43). By independent adjustment of the screwed spindles 34 the angular position of the cutter support 2 may be adjusted to avoid a stepped cutting line on the edge of the metal sheet.
