Abstract

Novel 2,6-pyridinedimethanol bis-(alkylidenecarbazates of formula <FORM:1087020/C2/1> where R and R1 are alkyl groups having 1-4 carbon atoms, or R is hydrogen and R1 is an alkyl, phenyl, nuclear substituted phenyl or heteroaromatic residue, are prepared by condensing 2,6-pyridinedimethanol biscarbazate with a carbonyl compound of formulaRR1C=O. 2,6-Pyridinedimethanol biscarbazate is prepared by treating pyridinedimethanol with phenyl chloroformate and treating the pyridine-dimethanol bis-(phenoxyformate) obtained with hydrazine hydrate.
