Abstract

108,680. Schraders Son, Inc., A., (Assignees of Myers, E. van A.). March 21, 1916, [Convention date]. Tyre and like inflating valves. - A tyre valve casing is constructed in two parts permanently connected together, one part being formed of comparatively cheap metal such as iron or steel while the other part is made from rust-resisting material such as brass. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the major part A of the casing is made from cheap metal, copper or nickel plated on its exterior, and is recessed at its outer end to receive brass or copper insertion Q, containing all the working parts of the valve, and formed with the nipple C for attaching the pump. The insertion, which may be non-circular in section and with or without external flanges, may be screwed, or soldered, or pressed into the outer part and secured by turning the end of the casing over a flange formed on the insertion, or by making indentations along the flats on the casing. In a modification the bore F is lined with a sleeve either integral with or separate from the insertion Q. In a further modification the bore of the outer member is filled with solder or zinc and the zinc plug afterwards machined to obtain the necessary internal surfaces. In the form shown in Fig. 12, the part 22 is of iron or steel and is screwed against a packing 24 in an outer part 21 formed from drawn brass tubing. The form shown in Fig. 13 is constructed by electrically depositing a rust-resisting metal 43 on the inner member 40 and on a plug or core of lead or paraffin temporarily inserted in the member 40. The bore of the member 40 may be electro-plated by inserting a pin-shaped anode into the bore or by rapidly circulating the electrolyte through the bore. The brass insertion or casing may be cast in or around the member made of inferior metal. Two forms are also described showing the casing made entirely by drawing and pressing.
