Abstract

1,086,748. Injection moulding joints. FERROTEST G.m.b.H. Dec. 22, 1964 [Jan. 11, 1964], No. 52163/64. Heading B5A. A grid for reinforcing concrete comprises steel rods 15, 16 which are attached to one another at their points of intersection by jackets K of synthetic plastics material injection moulded in position. The embodiment shows one of a number of separate injection moulding units and comprises mould halves 31, 33, the lower half 31 being raised by a wedge 26, formed on a horizontally reciprocable bar 18, which cooperates with a roller 27, and the upper half 33 being vertically reciprocated by nozzle 40 of an injection cylinder 39 attached to a slide 37 and a return spring 35. The cylinder 39 is fed via a shoot 42, and the material is plasticized and injected by a piston 43 which may also act as a feed cut-off by co-operation with shoot 42. The rods may be held in position adjacent the mould halves by a magnetic clamp mechanism 61-56. The injection units are mounted on a beam (13), Fig. 1 (not shown), with suitable feed means (not shown) for rods 15, 16 which moves rods 15 in a step-wise manner and places rods 16 individually in position. As an alternative to individual injection units, the mould halves may be mounted on beams (63, 64), Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), which are moved together or apart by means of an hydraulic motor (66) and links (65). One or more injection cylinders may be provided either on the upper or lower beam and the feed may be effected by piston or screw impellers which are axially movable or otherwise. A further embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), comprises an inclined conduit (74), surrounded by a heater jacket (75), and a slide valve (76). In all cases the mould halves may be locked together, e.g. by hydraulically or pneumatically operated wedge locks, and means for fluid cooling the moulds is preferably provided.
