Abstract

1,086,359. Mixing appliances. SOCIETE FIVES LILLE-CAIL. Dec. 9, 1964 [Dec. 10, 1963], No. 50080/64. Heading B1C. A batch or continuous discharge mixer for pasty material has two or more rotors 6 which additionally rotate about a common axis co-axial with the chamber 3. The rotors have paddle-like radial blades 8 arranged on one or more helices around their shafts 5 at an angle thereto, and interdigitating. The rotors are journalled in rotatable body ends 9 supported on the chamber 3 by rollers 13 and rotated by a ring gear 12 driven through a pinion by a variable speed motor which may be controlled by the rate of flow of the material; the rotors are rotated by engagement of gears as at 10, 11 with an internally toothed fixed ring gear 18. A heat exchange fluid may be circulated through the hollow shafts 5 and a jacket 4 round the body 3, and there may be heat-exchange tubes passing through the mixing chamber and rotating with the body ends 9. An embodiment having three rotors of which one is coaxial with the chamber and is keyed to and rotates with the ends 9 is described (see Figs. 4 and 5, not shown).
