Abstract

1,086,259. Resistance measurement. NEDERLANDSE ORGANISATIE VOOR TOEGEPASTNATUURWETENSCHAPPELIJK ONDERZOEK TEN BEHOEVE VAN NIJVERHEID, HANDEL EN VERKEER. Oct.27, 1965 [Oct.28, 1964], No. 45492/65. Heading G1U. [Also in Division H3] A resistance (e.g. a strain gauge) is measured by including it in a bridge which forms part of an oscillating loop comprising an amplifier and two R.C. phase-shift networks, one on each side of the bridge, wherein the R. C. network on the input side of the bridge is coupled thereto by two series impedances of the same kind in a diagonal of the bridge, the ratio of impedances being at balance, the same as the ratio of the bridge impedances with which they are in parallel. In Fig. 1 the R. C. network 14, 39 is coupled to two resistors 12, 13 across the bridge such that 8/9=10/11=12/13 at balance. The bridge output is fed through an amplifier 4 and transformer T 2 to a further R. C. network 24, 53 and thence via a further amplifier 6 and transformer T to the first R. C. network 14, 39. Variation in one of the resistors 8-11 alters the frequency of oscillation which can be measured on a meter M. A detailed circuit diagram is given Fig. 2 (not shown) for a mean operating frequency of 5 Kc/s.
