Abstract

In a hospital, compartment 26 receives refuse and is rotated by hand wheel 30 to discharge the material into the shoot 4. The movement of the compartment is governed by foot lever 50, the detent 34 of the rod 42 of which engages in slots 36 of disc 32 secured to rotate with the compartment, the rod 42 ensuring that the compartment falls into one of two limit positions. The compartment is counter-balanced at 64 and carries rubber strips which co-operate with the casing 2 to ensure that smell does not enter the hospital. Alternatively the compartment 26 may be driven by an electric motor.
