Abstract

Carbon dioxide is removed from gases containing ammonia by passing the gas mixture through a bed fluidized by the gas flow at a temperature below 60 DEG C., ammonium carbamate and carbonates being deposited. The ratio of NH3:CO2 should be at least 2:1 or if water is present at least 1:1. The bed may consist of an absorbent granulated gel, or other inert material such as sand, and cooling may be supplied by the injection of liquid ammonia or by cooling coils. The bed may be regenerated with steam or by passing the NH3/CO2 mixture with heating.
