[Also in Division B1] Apparatus for applying liquids such as shampoos, colour tints, disinfectants, and water to the hair, comprises a hood 3 shaped to enclose the hair and seal against the head, and applicator members 4 which are connected to a conduit supplying the liquids and are able to be reciprocated relative to the hood and over the hair by an electric motor. As shown, the apparatus also includes an adjustable and spring-loaded support 6, 7 for the hood, a hinged panel at the front of the hood, and an aperture 52 through which warm air from a hair drier may be directed. The applicator members 4 are resiliently secured to carrier arms 17 mounted on pivots 16, the arms 17 being driven so as to reciprocate over the head about the pivots 16 by a rack and pinion mechanism (Figure 3, not shown) located at each pivot and connected through transmission members 35, 37, 41, to the electric motor. The applicator members 4 comprise brushes or plates having holes, or sponges, through which the liquid is fed to the hair, a conduit (30, 27, 24, 22) passing through the members 17 and the pivot 16 providing the liquid from an automatic supply (Figure 4, not shown) which includes solenoid-operated valves and metering devices, a timing mechanism, and a thermostatically controlled hot water supply (58). The apparatus includes an outlet 14 from the hood and it is stated that the applicator members 4 on one side of the head may be arranged to reciprocate independently of those on the other side.
