A method for screening a window or door with a screening material comprises fire-fixing two or more sets of locating lugs 6, 6<SP>1</SP> at predetermined positions on the wall surrounding the window or door, mounting on each set of lugs 6, 6<SP>1</SP> a rigid frame member comprising one, e.g. (Fig. 4), or more elongated members, e.g. 1, 2, 3 (Fig. 1), the or each member 1, 2, 3 being rigidly -secured in at least two places to rigid cross-pieces such as 4, 4<SP>1</SP> bearing mounting lugs 5, 5<SP>1</SP> for association with the lugs 6, 6<SP>1</SP> and placing the screening material in the case of each frame either (1) between the member 1 and the window or door (Fig. 4) or (2) between the member 1 and the window or door and between the members 1, 2 and 2, 3 (Fig. 1). With a member 1 as in Fig. 4 wooden planks may be placed between it and the window. With the members 1, 2, 3 as in Fig. 1 the member 3 has a portion 3<SP>1</SP> below the cross piece 4<SP>1</SP> and mounted in a tube 9 set in a firm base. The portion 3<SP>1</SP> may be set at an angle to the frame to bear on the wall for support. Preferably wooden planks are placed between the member 1 and the window or door, sandbags between the members 1 and 2 and planks between the members 2 and 3. The members 1, 2, 3 may be steel tubes and may be adjustable. The mounting and locating lugs are shown in Fig. 6 ready for association.
