Abstract

1,082,096. Measuring displacement electrically. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug.4, 1966 [Aug.20, 1965], No.35813/65. Addition to 953, 449. Heading G1N. The displacement measuring device disclosed in Specification 990, 928 in which four intercalated sets of conductive strips S1-S4 &c., move relative to a member 1 having a conductive toothed profile, is modified so that these sets are sub-divided into two pairs of interlaced strips S1, S3 &c., and S2, S4 &c., placed side by side in non-intermeshing relationship. The interlaced strips may project from a pair of parallel bus-bars, Fig. 2 (not shown) and embedded in moulded resin. In a modification, Fig.3 (not shown), one pair of strips may be duplicated and mounted one on either side of the other pair, thus reducing errors due to tilting of the toothed member. The strips are skewed to reduce the harmonic content of the output signal and the strip assembly may be produced by printing. The arrangement may be arranged in annular form to measure angular displacements.
