Abstract
1,081,737. Astronomical sighting apparatus. H.A. BLOMQUIST. March 26, 1966, No.13475/66. Heading G2J. Apparatus for identifying and locating heavenly bodies comprises a global star map 14 having frames (70), 72 rotatably mounted thereon, which frames support a sighting device 10. The globe is rotated about its polar axis 20 by means of a sidereal clock or motor 22. The axis 20 is placed at an angle depending on the latitude, by means of a securing bolt 32 and a plate 42 moving inside a slot 34 in a support member 40. The frames (70), 72 are mounted on a ring 64 which rotates within a rotatable ring 58 having azimuth markings thereon indicated by a pointer 106 on one frame 72. Ring 62 and a ring 67 mounted on the rotatable walls 54 of the base 10 may be marked to calculate the sidereal time, Fig. 14 (not shown). One frame 72 has an extension 80 with a pivoted bracket 84 to one side, Fig. 3 (not shown), on which is mounted the sighting device 10. The bracket 84 is geared to a pulley 92 which is connected by a cord 94 to a pointer 104 such that movement of the sighting device 10 causes a corresponding movement of the pointer 104 across a scale 74. The pointer 104 is positioned on the same side of the globe as the eyepiece 12 or (12') of the sighting device, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), or alternatively on both sides for apparatus having interchangeable sighting devices. Refracting and reflecting telescopes are disclosed as sighting devices.
