Abstract

1,078,332. Generators operating by electromagnetic interaction with fluids. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Oct. 15, 1964 [Oct. 23, 1963], No. 42108/64. Heading H2A. A magnetohydrodynamic generator has an annular duct 18 with electrodes 24, 26 supported on the concentric walls 14, 16 which bound the duct and a longitudinally extending toroidal winding 12 which has its end turns, adjacent the ends of the duct, supported in a plurality of thin circumferentially spaced groups supported on struts 34 which are welded to walls 14, 16 and also serve to support the walls relative to each other. The exposed surfaces of the struts are covered with zirconia 36 and cooling may be provided. A stainless steel casing 40 surrounds winding 12 and is supported on a foundation (not shown). Seeded combustion products may be used as the working fluid and the seed material may be reclaimed after use.
