Abstract

<PICT:1078129/C6-C7/1> An electrolyzer of the filter press construction type, especially for electrolyzing water, comprises a plurality of cell frames 1, a metallic partition wall 2 carrying electrodes 3 on each side inside each cell frame, and a diaphragm 4 between each pair of adjacent cell frames and fixed to one of the frames, e.g. held in a groove 5 by a ring 6. A closed ring 7 having circular, cross-shaped, square or rectangular cross-section (shown having two projections 9, 9a) may be located in a groove 8 for sealing adjacent frames. The grooves 5 and 8 and the frame portion therebetween may be provided with a plastic covering for insulation.
