1,078,068. Photo-electric monitoring devices. J. WEIR, S.J.S. VERMAAK AND I. LADANYI. Oct.14, 1964, No. 41960/64. Heading G1A. To monitor the movement of lifts, skips and rail vehicles to give a warning of excessive speed apparatus is provided including normally closed and normally open switch contacts. Provision is made to open the normally closed contacts whilst a body is passing the test position and to close the normally open contacts at the commencement of the time the body passes the test position for a predetermined period. A warning is given if both sets of contacts are closed at the same time. The figure shows a light source 2 whose radiation normally falls on photo-transistor 1 but may be interrupted by a passing body. Interruption of the light causes release of relay A and energization of relay B which is held energized until the charge in capacitor 3 has leaked away. If relay A is re-energized before relay B releases a circuit is completed through contacts A 1 and B 1 to give a warning or operate a brake. The power supply for the apparatus may be stabilized by means including transistors 11 and 12 and lamps 9 and 10 are included to indicate the condition of the two relays.
