Abstract

1,077,579. Manufacturing luminescent screens. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Dec. 17,1964 [Jan. 9, 1994, No. 51347/64. Heading H1D [Also in -Division G2] A method of preparing mosaic phosphor screens for cathode-ray `tubes includes the steps of applying a photo-sensitive screen layer to a foundation plate, exposing the layer both to a pattern of actinic energy and to a flood of actinic energy, the flood exposure being less than that required by itself to significantly insolubilize the layer, and developing the layer. The photo sensitive screen layer comprises polyvinyl alcohol, ammonium dichromate and phosphor which is applied to a tube faceplate having a multi-apertured shadow mask electrode disposed substantially parallel to and spaced from the faceplate, the layer is then flood exposed to ultra-violet light directed from a broad area source through the faceplate 'and then pattern exposed to ultra-violet light through the shadow mask from a point source located substantially at the centre of deflection of the election beam of the finished cathode-ray tube. The pattern exposure may be made before the flood exposure. The flood exposure is made by twentyfive tree-watt lamps arranged in a two dimensional array positioned five inches above the faceplate, and the pattern exposure by a 1 Kw. high pressure mercury arc lamp.
