Abstract
1,076,339. Gas analysis. HEIMUT MAUELL [trading as RELAIS-UND FEINWERK BAU]. June 20, 1966 [June 25, 1965], No.27403/66. Heading G1B. An instrument for testing waste gases, e. g. as for measuring the smoke or dust content of furnace gases comprises a diaphragm pump 5, an electric motor 4 for driving the pump by way of gearing 18, an eccentric 3 and a connecting rod 17, a reduction gear-box 9 also driven by the motor and driving a switch arm 10 controlling the running time of the motor, a section probe tube 1 and a filter chamber 2 through which the pump 5 draws a gas sample during the running time of the motor 4. A rechargeable cell 12 at one end of a cylindrical casing 7 for the instrument powers the pump motor 4. The pumping action is initiated by a switch 20, which also controls a signal lamp 21 and the switch arm 10 is driven through 180‹ between contacts 14 at each operation to control the motor running time the gear-box 9 having e.g. a reduction ratio of 2000:1. Sample gas is drawn in through the tube 1 through a duct 25 containing a moisture absorbing plastics material e.g. a polyamide, and through the chamber 2 containing a disc of filter paper, the pump 5 exhausting through an orifice 8. Thus the liquid and solid contents of the gas sample are extracted, for determination. The probe tube 1 also contains a thermocouple connected to a dial indicator 23 for measuring the temperature of the gas sample.
