Abstract

In a teleprinter having an automatic linespacing action coupled with carriage-return action, a partial line-spacing occurs if only a carriage-return signal is received and also partial line-spaces if a further signal is received during an actual carriage-return movement. As shown in Fig. 5, A, B represents a line of printing and the subsequent lines C, D; E, F &c. are at half-line-space intervals. When a carriage-return signal is received a half-line space is effected so the carriage travels, relative to the paper, in a diagonal direction B, N; if a signal is now received it is printed at Ox in half-line C, D and another half-line spacing occurs and if a still further signal is received, it is printed on line E, F at Px. This occurs until the carriage is fully returned and there is thus no possibility of an incoming signal printing on top of existing printing.
