Abstract

1,076,076. Laminates. HEXCEL PRODUCTS Inc. April 20, 1965 [April 20, 1964], No. 16658/65. Heading B5N. A method of making a fabric reinforced plastic honeycomb structure in which the warp and woof of the reinforcing fabric are disposed at oblique angles relative to the longitudinal axes of cells of the structure comprises providing a plurality of non-rectangular parallelogram shaped cut sections of fabric reinforced plastic material of substantially the same pattern and size, and in which the warp of the fabric extends parallel and the woof of the fabric extends perpendicular to a first opposite pair of parallel sides of each section and at oblique angles in reference to a second opposite pair of parallel sides of each said section; applying adhesive on to one side of each section along spaced apart mutually parallel bonding lines extending substantially perpendicularly to said first opposite pair of parallel sides of the non- rectangular parallelogram sections and superimposing said sections one upon the other in a stack and with the bonding lines of successive said superi mposed sections staggered relative to one another, treating the stack to form permanent bonds between adjacent sections to build up a block of unexpanded honeycomb structure. The block may be out along lines parallel to said second opposite pair of parallel sides of each section and expanded. The cores may be used in the production of sandwich laminates.
