Abstract

107,559. Rasmussen, A. March 30, 1917. Reciprocating-saw machines.-In a hack-saw machine, the blade is fed to the work during the cutting stroke and is lifted from it by a spring or weight during the non-cutting stroke, a checking-device provided to limit this lifting movement. The bar 12 upon which the saw frame 14 reciprocates is pivoted upon the driving- shaft 13 and is normally raised by a spring 25 or equivalent weight. An arm 36 of the frame 12 is pivoted to a vertically slidable ratchet bar 33 which is depressed during the cutting-stroke to feed the saw to the work by a dog 40 carried by a lever 42 rocked by a spring 50, the tension of which is adjusted by a lever 55, 58. During the non-cutting stroke, the dog 40 is raised by a cam 49 on the shaft 13 and the saw is raised from the work by the spring 25, this movement being checked by a dog 60<1> engaging the ratchet-bar 33. To allow the spring 25 to raise the saw for the insertion of new work, the dogs 40, 60<1> are withdrawn from the ratchet-bar 33 by a hand-lever 68, 65, the height to which the saw rises being limited by a stop 73 adjustable on a rod 70. According to a modification, the ratchet bar 33 is replaced by a ratchet disk.
