Abstract
A bird scaring device comprises a rod at least the external surface of which is of electrically insulating plastics material and on which are helically wound two electrically conductive threads with the conductive material exposed at the surface of each thread the turns of one thread being interposed between the turns of the other and adjacent turns of the two threads being closely spaced without electrical connection therebetween to enable the feet of a bird landing thereon to make simultaneous contact with both threads. One thread is connected to earth and the other connected to a source of electrical power which may be a mains-operated generator producing periodic impulses and mounted on one end of the rod. The rod is grooved to receive the threads and may be wholly formed of polyvinyl chloride. The device may be mounted on a building or over crops.
