Abstract

A sintered boron nitride compact is produced by cold compacting boron nitride powder with or without a binder such as polyethylene glycol in acetone and then sintering the compact in a mould which restricts the expansion of the boron nitride. The sintering temperature is 1500 DEG -2100 DEG C. and the expansion of boron nitride at this range is 4.5-5%. The mould in which the sintering is carried out must therefore be less than 4.5% greater than the dimensions of the compact to be sintered.
