Abstract
1,073,217. Fire alarms. GRAVINERV MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd., and WILKINSON SWORD Ltd. Feb. 27, 1964 [Dec. 4, 1962], No. 45718/62. Heading G4N. [Also in Division G1] In a flame detection system, which may be either a fire warning device or a flame monitoring arrangement, a first detector is provided responsive to visible or ultra-violet radiation from a flame and also a second detector responsive to the heat of the flame. A warning, indication, or control signal is given only when both detectors respond to the presence, or absence, as the case may be, of the flame. The first detector may be photo-conductive, photo-emissive, photo-voltaic, a semi-conductor device or an ultra-violet sensitive gas-discharge-tube. The second detector preferably comprises two conductors in elongated form spaced apart by material whose electrical resistance falls with increasing temperature. The arrangement may be modified to give a warning of overheating, for example a flickering light controlled by the second detector only, as well as a flame response.
