Abstract

A process for the dyeing of textile materials (including articles made therefrom) consisting of or including filaments or fibres of fully synthetic or semi-synthetic hydrophobic organic polymer includes the step of impregnating the materials with pad liquors which contain a quinophthalone dye of the formula (I): <FORM:1071187/D1-D2/1> wherein R1 to R4 represent halogen atoms (i.e. fluorine, chlorine and bromine), which may be alike or different; ring A may contain one or more substituents, for example halogen atoms, cyano, alkyl alkoxy, or aryl groups, or substituted hydrocarbon groups; after which the impregnation is fixed by treatment in dry heat. The dyestuffs are generally first converted into disperse dye preparations by comminution to an p average particle size of 0.01 to 10 microns. They are suitable for use with linear aromatic polyesters, cellulose- 2 1/2 -acetate, cellulose triacetate, synthetic polyamides, polyolefines, acrylonitrile polymers or polycondensates from terephthalic acid and glycols. Polyesters are dyed with a fast yellow tint.
