Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of formula <FORM:1070635/C2/1> in which R1 and R2 are aliphatic, aromatic, araliphatic or heterocyclic radicals, or together form a cyclic system, n is 1 or 2, and the benzene rings may bear other substituents. These compounds (and others) are made by a process in which (HOC6H4)2CR1R2 is condensed with a reactive halogen-containing compound which is also an aromatic mono- or di-nitro compound, or a heterocyclic compound with at least 4 ring atoms. The above compound, in which R1=R2=Me, n = 2 and the nitro-groups are in the 2,4-positions of the respective rings, is exemplified.
