Abstract

1,070,489. Jackets for microfilms; packaging apparatus. NB JACKETS CORPORATION. Dec. 21, 1965, No. 54202/65. Headings B8C and B8K. A transparent multi-channelled plastics jacket J for protecting and storing micro films is made from two superimposed panels 10, 11 with spacers 12-16, of thickness not greater than that of the film, arranged parallel to each other between the panels. The panels 10, 11 are made from cellulose acetate, polyester film, ethyl glycol terephthalate &c. and the spacers 12-16 are made from plastics or paper. The spacers 12-16 are secured to the panels 10, 11 and define channels A, B, C, D of width equal to that of the films. The channels A, B, C, D are open at one end, the top panel 10 being cut away slightly at that end. In a modification of the jacket, the top spacer (12<SP>1</SP>), Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), is translucent and may have information typed on it. The bottom rib may be used for edge punching, to be used in an information retrieval system. The strips of microfilm F1, F2, F3 are inserted into the channels A, B, C manually or automatically. A microfilm-feeding machine may be used. The machine has a track (17), Fig. 6 (not shown), along which the film (19) is fed into the channels of the jacket J<SP>1</SP>. The cut-away portion of the top panel 10 facilitates the entry of the films into the channels A, B, C, D. A cutter 20 severs the film and the track (17) is moved adjacent the next channel. The jacket J containing the strips of microfilms F1, F2, F3 can be used for contact printing without removing the films from the jacket.
