Coin action with delivery proportionate to value of coin.-In prepayment attachments for gasmeters of the type in which coins of different values inserted in slots in a rotary coin drum are adapted to effect rotation of a wheel of the quantity-mechanism proportionately to their value, a coin drum A is provided with a slot A<1> so shaped that coins X, Y of different values (say a shilling and sixpence) are supported at opposite ends of the slot so as to engage the teeth of the wheel D of the quantity-mechanism at different points; a second slot A<2> crossing the slot A<1> serves to receive a penny. To bring the slots A<1>, A<2> into register with coin slots B<1>, B<2> in a fixed casing D, the drum is turned back until a pin E engages a fixed pin E<1> on the casing. In this position of the parts, the other end of the slot A<2> is opposite a slot B<4> in the casing; a fixed metal tongue C' is disposed beneath part of the slot B<4>. After the insertion of a shilling X, the drum is rotated in a clockwise direction until the pin E strikes a stop E<2>, the shilling falling through a slot B<3> in the casing. A sixpence and a penny both strike a stop B<5> and fall through the slot B<4>. Diverting and returning improper coins.-A small coin inserted in the slot A<2> is not supported by the tongue C<1>, but falls through the slot B<4> into a return shoot C. Coin-slit closing-devices.-A slotted strip (not shown) disposed between the drum A and casing B and operated by a pin on the drum may be employed to close the slots B', B<2> during the rotation of the drum.
