A data registering and control system, e.g. for betting shops, comprises in combination a data entry machine (1), Fig. 1 (not shown), including amount keys (4), transaction control keys (5), (6), (7), a slip printing mechanism for imprinting an inserted slip (9) bearing pre-recorded information thereon and a slip feeding mechanism, Fig. 6 (not shown), controlled by the transaction keys; and a document copying machine (2) which receives the imprinted slip directly from the data entry machine (1) and makes a copy of both the pre-recorded, and imprinted information on the inserted slip. In operation, the operator places a betting slip (9) having the pre-recorded information, e.g. name of the horse, nature of bet, amount staked &c. on table (8), enters the amount of the bet on keys (4) and depresses the appropriate control key. Operation of the control key causes the machine (1) to go through one cycle of operation during which the slip is imprinted, a ticket (61), Fig. 4 (not shown), is issued (11) for the customer, the audit strip (12) is printed and the slip is passed to the copying machine (2) for the production of a microfilm copy, the slip being finally ejected via fingers (14) into a receiving position. The feed mechanism from the data entry machine to the document copying machine is illustrated in Fig. 6 (not shown). By controlling the extent of the movement of lever (46) by segments (55) the degree of feed imparted to the slip (9) for multiple or single item transactions is regulated.
