Abstract

A composition for filling teeth or cementing bone comprises collagen containing calcium and phosphate ions in approximately the same ratio as in calcium hydroxyapatite, an antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory agent. The preferred type of collagen has a spacing of 640 A. Suitable antibiotics are bacitracin, polymyxin, chlortetracycline, tetracycline or salts or esters thereof, and neomycin or salts or esters thereof. Suitable anti-inflammatory agents are hydrocortisone, and halogenated derivatives thereof, prednisone, prednisolone, triamcinolone, methyl prednisolone, dexamethasone, androgens, glycyrhetinic acid and derivatives thereof e.g. glycyrrhetinic acid hemisuccinate and its disodium salt.ALSO:A composition for filling teeth or cementing bone comprises collagen containing calcium and phosphate ions in approximately the same ratio as in calcium hydroxyapatite, an antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory agent. The preferred type of collagen has a spacing of 640 . Specified antibiotics are bacitracin, poly-myxin, chlortetracycline, tetracycline or salts or esters thereof, and neomycin or salts or esters thereof. Suitable anti-inflammatory agents are hydrocortisone, and halogenated derivatives thereof, prednisone, prednisolone, triamcinolone, methyl prednisolone, dexamethasone, androgens, glycyrrhetinic acid and derivatives thereof e.g. glycyrrhetinic acid hemisuccinate and its disodium salt.
