Abstract

A protective device for the energizing winding of an electric furnace having a crucible of rupturable material to protect the turns of the winding from damage by melt issuing through ruptures in the crucible comprises a sheet of diamagnetic, heat-absorbent metal interposed between the crucible and the turns of the winding, whereby any issuing melt is solidified on contact with said sheet by heat absorption therefrom.
