Abstract

1,067,262. Centripetal/screw extrusion machines. PECO MACHINERY Ltd., and E. GASPAR. Feb. 19, 1965 [Feb. 21, 1964], No. 7437/64. Heading B5A. An extrusion moulding machine comprises a rotary member 11 to which is detachably connected a screw impeller 12, the member 11 being provided with a flange 11b, electrical heating elements 16 and a disc 15, the latter being separated from casing 20 such that granulated thermoplastics material fed from hopper 28 is plasticized and mixed by heat and shearing effects and is centripetally fed via space 18 to the screw 12. The detachable connection between rotary member 11 and screw 12 may be provided (a) by a spigot, splined or otherwise, on the former co-operating with a bore in the latter; (b) an end portion 12a of the screw being splined as at 19 to co-operate with a grooved bore in member 11; and (c) by a cone (not shown) positioned at the downstream end of screw 12 and having a screw-threaded stem which passes centrally through the screw 12 and engages a threaded bore in member 11 together with coupling (b). A detachable extrusion nozzle 22 allows removal of screw 12 and replacement by a screw of differing delivery capacity. Heaters 23 for the barrel section of casing 20 are also provided.
