Abstract

A particulate basic furnace slag fertilizer is produced by slowly cooling the molten furnace slag from 1500-1700 DEG C. to 300-700 DEG C. over a period of 1-3 hours, further cooling to below 200 DEG C., grinding, and classifying to produce a product having a particle size of 0.1-1.0 mm. The slow cooling may be effected by pouring the molten furnace slag into a pit. Classification may be by sieving and/or air classification. The product may have a surface area of 100-200 sq. cm./gm.
