Abstract

1,065,914. Stud and socket fastenings. F. T. PRODUCTS Ltd. July 7, 1965 [July 10, 1964], No. 28727/64. Heading E2B. A panel egatrim-pad 18 Fig. 5 formed with a plurality of similar circular apertures 20, accessible from one side only of the panel is attached to an apertured support 23 with the aid of a plurality of resilient fasteners 10, Fig. 2, each of which comprises a shank 12, a head co-axial with the shank, an annular skirt 15 adjacent the shank of greater diameter than the apertures 20, and, spaced from the skirt along the axis of the head, a substantially flat laterally extending retaining portion 14 having a dimension measured transversely of the head and shank less than the diameter of the annular skirt but greater than the diameter of the apertures 20 and sufficiently resilient to be forced from the accessible side of the panel through one of the apertures 20 in the panel, the head of the fastener being engaged through a respective aperture 20 with the portion 14 located on the blind side of the panel, the skirt 15 and shank 12 located on the accessible side of the panel, and the shank 12 engaged in a receiving aperture in the support 23. In the embodiment shown the retaining portion 14 comprises lugs 16, 17 engaged through the aperture 20 by first tilting and then straightening the fastener, the trim-pad 18 has padding material 21 and covering material 22, and the shank 12 which is of the form described in Specification 1,046,975 is snap-engaged into an aperture in the support 23. The skirt 15 is generally frusto-conical and forms a seal for the aperture in the support. In a second embodiment the portion 14 is in the form of the major segment of a circle and is inserted in the aperture 20 by a screwing action. In a third embodiment a circular flange is present on the head between the portion 14 and skirt 15 and in use abuts the accessible face of the panel to space the panel from the skirt 15. The fasteners 10 are preferably moulded from synthetic plastics material e.g. an acetyl resin.
