Abstract

In the packing or storing of two or more interactive materials in a single container, reaction between their interface or interfaces is reduced below that which will damage the compound when the materials are subsequently mixed, by gelling or stiffening the materials before packing. The components may be arranged in the container in vertical or horizontal layers or in concentric cylinders. When required for use, the components are mixed together by hand or mechanically in the container. Mechanical mixing devices may be a wire helix, a paddle stirrer or a metal or plastics plate which may be included in the container. In the embodiment, the components of a sealing composition, produced by the reaction between a polysulphide material and lead peroxide, are stored by dispersing the lead peroxide in dibutyl phthalate and making it into paste with bentone and acetone and other pigments. The polysulphide material is compounded with silica, titanium oxide and coated calcium carbonate and made into the second layer. In one form these materials are packed in a flexible sausage-like container and mixed by twisting or rolling it. One corner may then be cut off and the resulting material extruded. Alternatively, the contents may be extruded in the form of concentric cylinders which may be mixed in the hand.
