Abstract

1,064,851. Electrophotography; photo-copying apparatus. DENNISON MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. March 2, 1964 [March 8, 1963] No. 8756/64. Headings G2A and G2H. Photo-copying apparatus has a system of belts and rolls by which a strip 27 of copy material, which may have a photo-conductive coating of zinc oxide, is fed along a predetermined path in which the strip is successively cut at 44, sensitized by a corona discharge at 45, exposed, developed at 60 in a liquid toner, heat-fixed and passed to receptacle 100. The original is placed on window 10 and illuminated from below by the light box 16 as described in Specification 1,064, 852 the image being directed on to exposure area 24. Strip 27 leaves reel 26 and passes over idlers 28, 32 to rolls 34 driven by motor 36 through chains 37, 38 and a sprocket 42 which is intermittently connected through an electromagnetic clutch. Further rolls 47 take the strip from corona discharge device 45 and also has a sprocket 48 driven intermittently by an electromagnetic clutch. Elastic belt 50 on rolls 52 and tensioning roll 54, carry the strip into the exposure area 24 over a perforated backing plate 56 on which the strip is held by air suction. Pairs of rubber rolls 62, 64, 66 driven by motor 36, partly dip into toner liquid in a pan 67 supported on spring-loaded arm 70 and fed by pump 68 from tank 72. The developer strip then passes between heat lamps 92 for fixing after which belts 96, 97 take the finished print to receptacle 100. The timing sequence for the above operations is controlled by microswitches M1-M5 which are actuated by cams on cam-shaft 102 driven by motor 36 through an electrically operated onerevolution clutch, a further cam actuating the knife 44. The shaft 102 also drives a pre-set print counter 140 through 16:1 gearing 138. The feed systems of the apparatus have electromagnetic clutches K2, K3 controlled as above by the microswitches. Timers determine the exposure and development times.
